Hyperphosphatemia is a central contributor to the development of chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD) and is associated with adverse outcomes in individuals with CKD. A cornerstone of its management is limiting dietary phosphorus. This webinar will explore the evolution of dietary phosphorus management, highlighting a shift from blanket restrictions toward a more nuanced approach that considers phosphorus bioaccessibility and bioavailability. The presenters will discuss practical implications for dietary management and identify critical gaps to guide future research and the development of evidence-based recommendations.
Learning objectives:
- To understand the evolution of dietary phosphorus management in chronic kidney disease
- To understand the concepts of bioaccessibility and bioavailability and how these can impact the management of dietary phosphorus in chronic kidney disease
- To be aware of areas for future research in phosphorus management and development of evidence-based guidance
