Genetics Curriculum

Monogenic kidney disorders are individually rare but collectively can explain around 30–50% of chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes among children and 10–20% of adult CKD cases. Rapid advancement in next-generation sequencing technologies has enabled timely and precise genetic diagnosis and can profoundly benefit the clinical management of these patients and their families. Ongoing research on individual monogenic kidney diseases advanced our knowledge on disease pathogenesis and opened the doors to novel therapeutics. The implementation and broad application of genomic medicine in nephrology requires both education to raise the general genomic literacy and nephrogenetics sub-specialty training to nurture expertise.  

The International Society of Nephrology Education Working Group has undertaken the development of a comprehensive online program to advance understanding and education in this rapidly evolving field. The new curriculum ‘Genetics in Kidney Disease’  led by Drs. Becky Ma and Anuja Java, features a series of 11 recorded lectures covering key topics in nephrogenetics, together with roundtable-style panel discussions featuring leading experts on each topic for open conversations and deeper insights. We hope the curriculum serves as a valuable educational resource and inspires continued learning and collaboration in the field of nephrogenetics.
